The process is simple.
Place filter on top of cup. Add coffee. Drop metal press on top of coffee. Pour water on top of the press. Let it drip, and start writing. After a few minutes, drink, enjoy, and keep writing.
The whole process takes a few minutes and that’s why it works.
That’s the magic of making phin coffee.
Over three centuries ago, Sir Isaac Newton published The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy in which he describes the three laws of motion.
The world has never spun the same since.
Law #1 states objects in motion tend to stay in motion, objects at rest tend to stay at rest, unless acted upon by an external force.
Law #2 states the force acting on an object is equal to its mass multiplied by its acceleration; or F=ma.
Law #3 states for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
These three simple laws explain a lot of how the universe works.
Less than decade ago, James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, remixed Newton’s work in an article titled: The Physics of Productivity: Newton’s Laws of Getting Stuff Done.
For Law #3, Clear talks about opposing positive and negative forces of getting stuff done. One has the ability to power through to get stuff done, adding positive force, or to simplify things to get stuff done, subtracting negative force.
Both work.
For Law #2, Clear talks about the force, magnitude and direction of getting stuff done. One has limited force and must apply it in the right direction. It’s not just a matter of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and working harder.
Both matter.
For Law #1, Clear talks about procrastination being a fundamental law in the universe of getting stuff done. One has to overcome the initial inertia to get the ball rolling. He suggests the Two Minute Rule which states, “When you start a new habit, it should take less than two minutes.”
These three simple laws explain a lot of how productivity works.
So, what does the Two Minute Rule look like in action?
Put on your running shoes in the morning becomes going for a run. Reading one page before bed becomes finishing a book. Cleaning one plate after eating becomes cleaning your apartment. And my personal favorite, making a cup of phin coffee becomes writing an article for District 0.
And here we have arrived.
That’s the magic of making phin coffee.
